Hong Kong’s first-ever large-scale global automotive event, Hong Kong International Motor Show 2020 (IMSHK), will take place in July next year. To promote Hong Kong’s automotive industry and its research and development, the organiser is taking the lead with “Design the Future” Automotive Design Competition for all tertiary students who are passionate about automobiles. The competition offers students an opportunity to show their creativity and encourages innovation and excellence by designing their own cars for a mobility concept to improve future user experience.

Design the car of the future and start a new generation of innovative technology
“Design the Future” Automotive Design Competition invites all students of tertiary institutions to participate individually regardless of format and style and to create their distinctive cars or modules within a vehicle (hardware and/ or software) by way of a future mobility concept for the year 2050 in Hong Kong. Students are challenged to use emerging technology and demonstrate their creativity by optimising excellent future driving experience, bearing in mind convenience and the needs of society.

“The competition is one of the pillars of ‘Hong Kong Design Initiatives’ of IMSHK. We encourage innovative exchanges among the younger generation by organising automotive and design related activities to craft a vibrant and resilient future for Hong Kong’s industrial and technological design and innovation.” said the organiser. “We will invite competition participants to visit the IMSHK and join forum and workshops hosted by the judges for better understanding of automobiles and gain experiences from the judges. All entries will also be debuted at the IMSHK 2020.”

Authoritative judges to select the first intern at Zagato
The judging panel comprises professionals and academia of automotive and design industries. They will select winners to receive the Champion, the Best Futuristic Design Award, the Best Function Award and the Best Presentation Award according to three key criteria – innovation, functionality and presentation and execution. All participants will be given certificates of participation as encouragement. The Champion will be awarded a scholarship and will travel to Italy to participate in a 3-month internship programme and be the first Hong Kong intern at Zagato, one of the most prestigious car design studios in the world.

Dr Andrea Zagato, CEO of Zagato and head judge of the competition said, “Hong Kong has always been influenced by Chinese and Western cultures.
