“Design the Future” Competition – Who’s the winner?
The first-ever International MotorXpo Hong Kong (IMXHK) 2020 will be held from 10 to 14 July this year at AsiaWorld-Expo. To encourage and promote creativities and innovations, the organiser, International Motor Show (HK) Management Limited, kick-started an Automotive Design Competition themed “Design the Future” last September. As one of the pillars of “Hong Kong Design Initiatives” of IMXHK, the Competition invited students of tertiary institutions to design their distinctive cars with a future mobility concept for the year 2050 in Hong Kong.
The Competition received over 50 applications from more than 10 tertiary institutions in Hong Kong. The first round of panel review was conducted yesterday (2 Mar) by the authoritative judging panel comprising elite members of the industry and academia, including (in alphabetical order of surnames): Dr Ringo Lee (President of The Hong Kong Automobile Association & Chairman of The Institute of The Motor Industry Hong Kong), Dr Chunhua Liu (Assistant Professor, School of Energy and Environment of City University of Hong Kong), Dr Lawrence Poon (General Manager, Automotive Platforms & Application Systems R&D Centre of Hong Kong Productivity Council), Mr Alan Tam (International award-winning Hong Kong car designer), Dr Hong Tao (Lecturer, Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology) and Prof Alan Yip (Chairman of Hong Kong Design Trade Association).
The panel members initially shortlisted finalists according to three key criteria – innovation, functionality and presentation, as well as execution. The Head Judge of this Competition, Dr Andrea Zagato, CEO of Zagato will then select the Champion, the Best Futuristic Design Award, the Best Function Award and the Best Presentation Award from the finalists. The Champion will be awarded a 3-month internship programme in Italy with subsidies and be the first Hong Kong intern at Zagato, one of the most prestigious car design studios in the world. The winning entries are to be displayed at the IMXHK 2020. Come and support our young designers!
